Who was the Father of Europe? Robert Schuman received this title from the European Parliament, of which he was also President. He is the only European pioneer given this title.

He was earlier initiator of many of the major post-war institutions we depend on today. This includes the Council of Europe, NATO and the European Communities, the present European Union. He was a major Resistance figure, twice French Prime Minister and many times minister in other governments, including Finance Minister, Foreign Minister and Minister of Justice. A polymath, lawyer, linguist, historian, economic and political reformer, mathematician, theologian, Schuman’s interests extended far beyond politics.
